Dr. Russell Kridel Announces Retirement from FPSA
After an extraordinary career spanning more than four decades, Dr. Russell Kridel will retire from private practice and Facial Plastic Surgery Associates effective June 30, 2026.
Dr. Kridel founded Facial Plastic Surgery Associates with a vision of providing world-class facial cosmetic and reconstructive surgery with uncompromising attention to artistry, innovation, and patient care.

Internationally Recognized Leader in Facial Plastic Surgery
Dr. Kridel is widely regarded as one of the finest facial plastic surgeons in the United States and one of the leading experts in the world. Known as “the doctor’s doctor,” he is the surgeon to whom physicians, their families, and patients from around the globe have entrusted their care.
His reputation has been built on exceptional surgical skill, meticulous attention to detail, and a commitment to achieving natural, elegant results. During his career he has treated over 40,000 patients with the highest standards of care.
Pioneering Surgical Innovations
Dr. Kridel has made significant contributions to facial plastic surgery, particularly in rhinoplasty, revision rhinoplasty, facelift surgery, and septal perforation repair.
Many of the surgical techniques he developed are now taught in medical schools and residency programs throughout the United States. His septal perforation repair method has achieved a success rate exceeding 98 percent, enabling him to successfully repair some of the most challenging defects that many surgeons considered impossible to close.
His research on the use of irradiated costal cartilage in nasal reconstruction was recognized as a landmark study and remains one of the most influential publications in reconstructive nasal surgery.
Scholarly Achievement and Global Education
Dr. Kridel has authored more than 250 scientific journal articles and textbook chapters, making him one of the most published and influential surgeons in his field.
As an internationally sought-after lecturer, he has presented hundreds of educational courses and scientific lectures. His work has shaped the practice of facial plastic surgery and educated generations of surgeons around the world.
Mentor to Future Generations
As an AAFPRS Fellowship Director, Dr. Kridel has trained 44 fellows throughout his career. His fellowship program has been one of the most sought after in the United States and Canada. His former fellows are some of the most talented young surgeons in North America and have also become leaders in academic medicine and private practice.
Leadership in Medicine
Dr. Kridel has served in many of the highest leadership positions in organized medicine, reflecting the profound respect he has earned from his peers.
His leadership roles include:

- Chair of the Board of Trustees of the American Medical Association
- President of the Harris County Medical Society
- President of the Texas Medical Association Foundation
Honors and Recognition
Dr. Kridel has received all the highest honors for surgical excellence, innovation, and scientific achievement.
Among his most distinguished awards are the F. Mark Rafaty Award and the William K. Wright Award from the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. For more than three decades, he has been recognized every year on prestigious Top Doctor lists, including Castle Connolly and Super Doctors.
Philanthropy and Service
In 1995, Dr. Kridel founded The Face Foundation, a charitable program that provides reconstructive facial surgery at no cost to financially disadvantaged survivors of domestic violence and others in need. This work reflects his enduring commitment to restoring dignity, confidence, and hope.

What is next for Dr. Kridel?
Beginning in August, 2026, Dr. Kridel will be teaching at the University Of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston medical school, as well as completing his medical text book and additional scientific papers.
