Overview

Renowned facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Kridel is a leading expert in facial fillers. At FPSA, our physician designs and performs Voluma treatments tailored to the individual aesthetic goals of men and women in the Houston area. Voluma is the first and only FDA-approved hyaluronic acid gel that instantly adds lift to the apices, apples and hollows of the cheeks to help fill in lost volume to restore a youthful appearance, but it also helps improve lines and wrinkles around the mouth and nose.

About Voluma

Voluma is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler that instantly adds volume and lift to the cheeks for a more youthful facial contour. Voluma is an injectable hyaluronic-acid (HA), soft tissue filler and is the first and only filler that is FDA approved to instantly add lift to the cheek area in patients over the age of 21. As we age, we lose volume in our cheek area. Voluma can give you a subtle lift to help restore a more youthful contour to your face, and therefore, your profile. It is clinically proven to last up to two years. Juvederm® Voluma is the newest filler in the family of Juvederm products, and is formulated with lidocaine for added comfort during treatment. This current form, with the added local anesthetic, is known as Juvederm Voluma XC, but is more commonly referred to as Voluma. Voluma is different than Juvederm because it works on a different areas of the face, which are the apex, apple and hollow of the cheek.

What Sets Us Apart

At FPSA, your Voluma treatments are performed by board-certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Russell Kridel. This provides patients with the peace of mind that they are in the hands of a physician who focuses solely on the face and neck and the procedure is done in the safety and comfort of a medical office environment. In addition, Dr. Kridel makes sure patients are comfortable and experience very little discomfort during their treatment session, so patients can be given numbing cream or a dental block if they desire. At FPSA, Dr. Kridel takes facial injections quite seriously and believes it is important for patients to have highly skilled and trained hands that can tailor injections to your specific needs with greater finesse, rather than a one size fits all approach. In addition, our staff can deposit points into your Brilliant Distinctions loyalty program account at your office visit.

What To Expect

Dr. Kridel injects Voluma into the apex, apple, and hollow of the patient’s cheek. Results are immediate and can last up to 2 years. Side effects are considered mild to moderate and can last between 2 and 4 weeks. It’s finally been a year since I had my nose worked on!! Almost a little over a year ago I found this place online after doing lots of research about plastic surgery facilities close to my area. The doctor I wanted my nose to be done by, was in New York, and I was sure I’d have my nose done by that surgeon, but it was set in stone in my mind that I was NOT going to travel 1,648 miles across the country to get a nose job. (i am scared of New York) So initially, i had NO idea who was experienced and no idea if there was a place close to me….but, I am SO glad I chose Facial Plastic Surgery Associates. After looking at pretty much everything on their beautiful website and plenty of reviews, I finally sent the email with my information, practically kicking my feet. I was so excited to change my life. It wasn’t long before I got a response from Ashley, (sorry if I misspelled) one of the many wonderful associates who work at the facility. She was so kind and made scheduling consultations, post op appointments, and even my surgery so easy. One of the more difficult choices of this journey was choosing the right doctor. To me it was very importing this person wasn’t going to mess up my face. I had two choices of experienced doctors, Dr. Kridel and of course, Dr. Delaney. I had heard great things about Dr. Kridel and how he was the one who trained Dr. Delaney. It was a hard choice, but Ashley guided me through the process and answered all my questions with grace. Ultimately, I chose the wonderful Dr. Delaney. Best decision everrrrr- and before I knew it, I was having my first appointment with him. Walking into the office the first day was pretty nerve racking. They were cleaning out the building because they were getting ready for a move to a new place. Even though it looked pretty empty, I was greeted with smiling faces and cheerful voices that made me feel welcome and safe. When I met dr. Delaney, it felt like we we’ve known each other for a long time! Very professional, but also very welcoming and pretty laid back. The conversation was easy and I didn’t feel nervous to be seen by him with how well he carries himself. He is extremely educated and well taught. He was able to answer every question and every concern with adequate knowledge. Once the surgery was scheduled, he made sure to tell me everything about it. What to expect during each step of the process. He didn’t sugar coat anything and made sure that I knew when things were going to get painful/difficult during the recovery. I highly respect his honesty. The surgery day came and I was as excited as one can be. My life was going to be changed FOREVER. My biggest insecurity was finally being corrected. As I was getting strapped in for the procedure, Dr. Delaney showed up and calmed my nerves. (besides telling me about the catheter) Soon, I was put under and OUT! It went quick and when I woke up, dr. Delaney was the first to tell me that the surgery went perfectly! A year later and I cannot tell you how happy I am with my results. Even after the first few months I was so thrilled about the way my nose looked. When Dr. Delaney first revealed my nose to me, I cried. I was a new, more confident person. To this day, all I can be, is thankful for Dr. Delaney and the wonderful staff at facial plastic surgery associates. Sorry for the long review, but I could not have chosen a better place to put my trust in changing my life forever.

Expected Cost

Voluma is about the same cost as Sculptra® and is more expensive than other injectable fillers, such as Restylane® and Juvederm, because the results last longer. The cost of a Voluma treatment varies, depending on the amount of filler used, but ranges between $1,000-$6,000 per treatment.

About Us
What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Voluma is made up of hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance that helps to bind water to cells. Its extensive cross-linking helps to provide lifting capacity, which makes it an excellent choice for restoring volume in the cheeks and midface. This special cross-linking also helps to avoid degradation, making Voluma last longer.

Best Candidate?

Virtually anyone 21 years or older with volume loss in their cheek area is a candidate for treatment with Voluma. Many patients in their 30s, 40s, and 50s who are not appropriate candidates for surgery, or are not ready for downtime associated with surgery, will benefit instead from Voluma treatment.

Any Downtime?

There is no downtime after treatment, and patients may return to their normal activities.  However, we suggest that you avoid strenuous activities in the first 24 hours after Voluma or other forms of injectable treatments.

Lasting Results?

The results can be seen immediately, and can last up to 2 years. The duration of the results depends on the area being treated, and the rate the patient’s tissue breaks down the filler.

Combining Treatments?

Voluma is also often used in combination with other injectables, laser skin resurfacing or laser skin tightening treatments. Voluma can also be used as an interim non-surgical step to provide volume and lift to the cheek area. The effects of these combined treatments can be dramatic, while still requiring very little down time for recovery. Voluma can also be a valuable adjunct to facelift surgery. A facelift will remove excess skin, but a facelift will not restore volume.

Difference From Sculptra?

Voluma is an injectable filler made from hyaluronic acid. Sculptra is not a filler.  It is made of Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA), a synthetic biodegradable polymer that is both resorbable and bio-compatible. It works by stimulating the body to produce new collagen at the sites of injection, thereby replacing lost volume and contours to restore a fuller, more youthful appearance. Sculptra does not give immediate results like the true fillers do. Since Sculptra has to stimulate the body to create new collagen, this process takes time. Sculptra can last at least two or more years because it causes the body to stimulate its own collagen. Patients usually require 2 to 3 sessions generally 4-6 weeks apart to accomplish optimum volume.
