Overview

Renowned facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Kridel is a leading expert in facial fillers. At FPSA, our physician designs and performs Voluma treatments tailored to the individual aesthetic goals of men and women in the Houston area. Voluma is the first and only FDA-approved hyaluronic acid gel that instantly adds lift to the apices, apples and hollows of the cheeks to help fill in lost volume to restore a youthful appearance, but it also helps improve lines and wrinkles around the mouth and nose.

About Voluma

Voluma is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler that instantly adds volume and lift to the cheeks for a more youthful facial contour. Voluma is an injectable hyaluronic-acid (HA), soft tissue filler and is the first and only filler that is FDA approved to instantly add lift to the cheek area in patients over the age of 21. As we age, we lose volume in our cheek area. Voluma can give you a subtle lift to help restore a more youthful contour to your face, and therefore, your profile. It is clinically proven to last up to two years. Juvederm® Voluma is the newest filler in the family of Juvederm products, and is formulated with lidocaine for added comfort during treatment. This current form, with the added local anesthetic, is known as Juvederm Voluma XC, but is more commonly referred to as Voluma. Voluma is different than Juvederm because it works on a different areas of the face, which are the apex, apple and hollow of the cheek.

What Sets Us Apart

At FPSA, your Voluma treatments are performed by board-certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Russell Kridel. This provides patients with the peace of mind that they are in the hands of a physician who focuses solely on the face and neck and the procedure is done in the safety and comfort of a medical office environment. In addition, Dr. Kridel makes sure patients are comfortable and experience very little discomfort during their treatment session, so patients can be given numbing cream or a dental block if they desire. At FPSA, Dr. Kridel takes facial injections quite seriously and believes it is important for patients to have highly skilled and trained hands that can tailor injections to your specific needs with greater finesse, rather than a one size fits all approach. In addition, our staff can deposit points into your Brilliant Distinctions loyalty program account at your office visit.

What To Expect

Dr. Kridel injects Voluma into the apex, apple, and hollow of the patient’s cheek. Results are immediate and can last up to 2 years. Side effects are considered mild to moderate and can last between 2 and 4 weeks. The most common side effects are tenderness, swelling, firmness, bumps, bruising, redness, itching or discoloration at the injection site.

Flawless experience. I researched and searched for the right facial plastic surgeon for my daughter for 2 years before making the decision to consult with Dr. Sean Delaney. I cannot explain how happy and beyond satisfied I am with Dr. Delaney and his wonderful team. Dr. Delaney performed a very thorough initial consultation and inspected my daughter’s nasal passages. He had a lot of detailed information about what needed to be done and what he could realistically do to help her breathe better and aesthetically look better. He under promised the outcome and overdelivered her final result. Dr. Delaney has experience, skill and technique, is a true artist and perfectionist, which has ultimately given my daughter the boost of confidence she needed to look and feel her best! Thank you, Dr. Delaney and your amazing team from the bottom of my heart, you are truly TOP KNOTCH!

Expected Cost

Voluma is about the same cost as Sculptra® and is more expensive than other injectable fillers, such as Restylane® and Juvederm, because the results last longer. The cost of a Voluma treatment varies, depending on the amount of filler used, but ranges between $1,000-$6,000 per treatment.

About Us
What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Voluma is made up of hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance that helps to bind water to cells. Its extensive cross-linking helps to provide lifting capacity, which makes it an excellent choice for restoring volume in the cheeks and midface. This special cross-linking also helps to avoid degradation, making Voluma last longer.

Best Candidate?

Virtually anyone 21 years or older with volume loss in their cheek area is a candidate for treatment with Voluma. Many patients in their 30s, 40s, and 50s who are not appropriate candidates for surgery, or are not ready for downtime associated with surgery, will benefit instead from Voluma treatment.

Any Downtime?

There is no downtime after treatment, and patients may return to their normal activities.  However, we suggest that you avoid strenuous activities in the first 24 hours after Voluma or other forms of injectable treatments.

Lasting Results?

The results can be seen immediately, and can last up to 2 years. The duration of the results depends on the area being treated, and the rate the patient’s tissue breaks down the filler.

Combining Treatments?

Voluma is also often used in combination with other injectables, laser skin resurfacing or laser skin tightening treatments. Voluma can also be used as an interim non-surgical step to provide volume and lift to the cheek area. The effects of these combined treatments can be dramatic, while still requiring very little down time for recovery. Voluma can also be a valuable adjunct to facelift surgery. A facelift will remove excess skin, but a facelift will not restore volume.

Difference From Sculptra?

Voluma is an injectable filler made from hyaluronic acid. Sculptra is not a filler.  It is made of Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA), a synthetic biodegradable polymer that is both resorbable and bio-compatible. It works by stimulating the body to produce new collagen at the sites of injection, thereby replacing lost volume and contours to restore a fuller, more youthful appearance. Sculptra does not give immediate results like the true fillers do. Since Sculptra has to stimulate the body to create new collagen, this process takes time. Sculptra can last at least two or more years because it causes the body to stimulate its own collagen. Patients usually require 2 to 3 sessions generally 4-6 weeks apart to accomplish optimum volume.
