Dr. Kridel specializes in procedures for the face and neck, exclusively. He has pioneered surgical techniques for rhinoplasty, revision rhinoplasty, facelift and septal perforation that are now taught in medical schools across the country. Regarded as “the” leading expert in facial plastic surgery, patients, including physicians and their family members, come from all over the world to have Dr. Kridel perform their surgery. He is the most noted, of only a few specialists, in the U.S. with an extremely high success rate for complex septal perforation surgery. Dr. Kridel also has extensive experience performing many other cosmetic procedures such as otoplasty, eyelid surgery, CO2 laser resurfacing, hair restoration, and other leading-edge, non-surgical treatments.
After obtaining his B.A. at Stanford, Dr. Kridel studied art history in Florence, Italy, and became fascinated with what proved to be a lifelong interest — beauty through the ages. He credits this time as a pivotal period in his development of a keen aesthetic eye, which has set him apart in a field in which a refined artistic sense is of paramount importance. After deciding facial plastic surgery would be his life’s work and passion, he attended medical school at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He completed his residencies in general surgery and in otolaryngology – head and neck surgery – at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, and completed a prestigious AAFPRS fellowship in facial plastic surgery.
Teaching and Instruction
Because his skills are well known and widely admired, Dr. Kridel has trained thousands of surgeons from around the world. Surgeons come to visit him in his private practice in Houston, and they travel to medical courses to hear him lecture. They consistently refer to the plethora of scientific articles and textbook chapters he has authored to help advance their own surgical skills. Dr. Kridel serves on the faculty at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston as a Clinical Professor and Director, Division of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, UT Health Science Center & Medical School. He is on the medical staff of several Houston hospitals, including Methodist Hospital.

His research study on the use of irradiated cartilage grafting in nasal reconstruction was published in the AMA Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery, and was hailed as a “landmark study,” which “epitomized the meticulous clinical observations that we all should strive to achieve in our practices.”
Always an activist for excellence in health care delivery, Dr. Kridel believes better health care for patients comes, in part, from physicians’ dedication to developing medical advancements at all levels. Elected by surgeons from his own specialty, as well as, physicians across all disciplines, to numerous leadership positions, Dr. Kridel has served as President of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, President of the Texas Medical Association Foundation, and President for the Harris County Medical Society. In 2014, Dr. Kridel was elected to the American Medical Association Board of Trustees and is currently the Chair-Elect.
Commitment to Fellowship
Based on his reputation for superior surgical skills and innovative techniques, Dr. Kridel is a Fellowship Director for the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship Program. Dr. Kridel’s Fellowship is one of 49 sanctioned programs across the United States and Canada and one of only two programs in Texas. A fellowship with Dr. Kridel is one of the most sought after by the best and the brightest physicians that have graduated at the top of their respective medical training programs.
In 1995, Houston facial plastic surgeon, Russell W. H. Kridel, M.D., established The Face Foundation charitable program. The Face Foundation provides surgical care at no fee to financially disadvantaged individuals who are survivors of domestic violence and need to receive restorative or reconstructive facial plastic surgery, especially battered women and children.
