The saying, “Buyer Beware”, is relevant to the discussion about Liquid Rhinoplasty, as well as Rhinoplasty.
Let’s first speak about Liquid Rhinoplasty. Liquid Rhinoplasty is the injection of dermal fillers to reshape the nose. The demand for liquid rhinoplasty has increased over the past years. There a several reason for this, but certainly, one of the biggest is the increased use of social media. Your nose is one of the most prominent features of your face and if there is something about your nose that you don’t like, you will be more self-conscious about it when you are seeing yourself over and over again on the myriad of social media and chat platforms. In many instances the camera from your phone, tablet or pc, if not angled perfectly, can also exacerbate an undesirable flaw. In addition, there has been a significant increase in the use and social acceptance of facial fillers and wrinkle relaxers, which has been matched by a huge number of providers who will inject them.
Unfortunately, any physician, physician’s assistant, nurse practitioner or registered nurse, can inject dermal fillers. And many do not alert their patients to the serious side effects if not injected correctly. And many do not explain to patients that a liquid rhinoplasty is temporary. Sadly, we have seen numerous patients who did not have their nose injected by a highly trained surgeon and had experienced blindness or skin necrosis and other complications.
The cheapest place is rarely the best place to get a non-surgical rhinoplasty. Patients need to seek out an experienced injector, particularly for liquid rhinoplasty. Simply put, a board-certified otolaryngologist and facial plastic surgeon (like Dr. Kridel) have the in-depth knowledge of the anatomy of your nose and your face. They know where and how to inject the filler and the most appropriate filler to use.
Often patients think they want a liquid rhinoplasty because it is cheaper. Initially, it is less expensive. But, injections are not a permanent solution. So, if you desire to keep the look you will need to inject your nose about once every 9 to 12 months. In the long run, it is ultimately, cheaper to have a surgical Rhinoplasty if you desire a permanent solution.
Some patients are better candidates than others for Liquid Rhinoplasty. Patients with smaller imperfections in the bridge or are looking for a temporary solution for an upcoming social event are good candidates. Also, some patients want to see if they prefer the look of their “new” nose before undergoing surgery. If the patient doesn’t care for the look of their nose with the dermal fillers, fortunately, the physician in most cases can desolve the filler. Patients who have large noses, bulbous tips or desire a size reduction, are not good candidates because liquid rhinoplasty adds volume, it can not reduce volume.
A surgical Rhinoplasty is obviously a more permanent approach for desired aesthetic changes. However, your nose is also one of the most complicated structures of your face and no two noses are exactly alike. So, in the hands of an inexperienced surgeon, the results can be less desirable and very challenging to fix. Once again, it is imperative that patients seek out an experienced facial plastic surgeon, such as Houston facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Russ Kridel, who performs hundreds, if not thousands, of Rhinoplasty surgeries with successful outcomes.
