What Sets Us Apart

Dr. Kridel and Dr. Delaney are an award-winning, board-certified facial plastic surgeons specializing in aesthetic surgery strictly for the areas of the neck and up. Together, Dr. Kridel and Dr. Delaney have published over 40 scientific journal articles and book chapters on facial rejuvenation. Our patients and staff refer others, as well as their own family members to Dr. Kridel and Dr. Delaney for their recognized surgical skill and expertise in this area.

Surgical Technique

During submental liposuction, the surgeon makes tiny incisions under the chin and behind each earlobe and “vacuums” out excess fat through a suction catheter called a “cannula.” The small incisions are closed with sutures, which are removed in the office 5 to 7 days later. The procedure takes about an hour, depending on the size of the area and the amount of excess fat needed to be removed.

During/After Surgery

Patients have the benefit of having Submental Liposuction performed in our AAAHC-accredited, in-office surgical suite. There are different types of anesthesia that can be utilized by patients for this procedure. For patients who would like the ability to drive home afterward, Pro-Nox is a good match. Pain medication (PO Meds) along with Local Anesthesia is an option at no additional cost. However, because of the pain medication will not be out of a patient’s system, a driver is required. IV Sedation is also available which requires a driver to take the patient home following the surgery. After surgery, patients can begin to see a more youthful jawline with jowls and double chins reduced. It takes about a full week for the bruising and swelling to dissipate and can take a few months for the final results to appear. After three to five days, you can return to work.

Expected Cost

Dr. Russell Kridel and Dr. Sean Delaney create beautiful and natural results that bring a more youthful appearance to your face and neck. The cost for Submental Liposuction surgery range from $4,000 to $6,000 and includes surgical fees, FPSA OR (operating room), and IV Anesthesia fees if desired.

Facial sculpting with Buccal Fat Removal and Chin Liposuction

Submental Liposuction Faqs

Liposuction is a surgery that removes fat, but it does not address loose skin. Good candidates for liposuction alone typically have good skin elasticity. For those with significant skin laxity, other treatment options may give you a better result. During your consultation with Dr. Kridel or Dr. Delaney, he can review all of the options for skin tightening and skin texture, if you would like.

During your consultation with Dr. Kridel or Dr. Delaney, he will fully evaluate the face and neck area. He will also take photographs and complete digital computer imaging so that patients can discuss their aesthetic goals and review what can be achieved through submental liposuction or other facial rejuvenation procedures. Dr. Kridel and Dr. Delaney will only provide you with a surgical plan tailored specifically to you and your goals for the most successful facial rejuvenation outcome, which may or may not include liposuction.

Dr. Kridel and Dr. Delaney take great care to place the incisions in inconspicuous spots, such as under the chin and behind the earlobes, to keep scarring to a minimum and virtually undetectable over time.

Liposuction creates a slimmer facial appearance and is ideal for those who are at a healthy weight but still have stubborn areas of fat resistant to diet and exercise. Liposuction is not an alternative to a weight loss plan, nor is it a surgical treatment for obesity. Patients that have lost a great deal of weight and have loose skin as a result may be better candidates for facelift surgery but not facial liposuction.

Submental liposuction is commonly combined with facelift surgery to remove the fatty area directly under the chin or with chin augmentation surgery to improve jawline definition. However, it can also be done as a single outpatient procedure.

While holding a Pro-Nox mouthpiece to your mouth you then simply breathe in and out as directed by Dr. Delaney or Dr. Kridel. The effects are normally felt within just a few breaths offering immediate relief of pain and anxiety without needles or pills. This sensation wears off quickly after you start to breathe normally. Patients can select Pro-Nox at a small additional cost with submental liposuction surgery. If additional procedures are performed at the same time as submental liposuction and Pro-Nox is recommended by the surgeon, there is no additional charge.

Intravenous (IV) sedation is a type of anesthesia given through a tub placed in a vein. It helps you relax, and prevents you from feeling pain. IV sedation is also known as monitored anesthesia care (MAC), conscious sedation, or twilight sleep. Patients can also select IV Sedation for their submental liposuction procedure. This needs to be administered by an Anesthesiologist or CRNA at our AAAHC accredited surgical suite. There is an additional cost for IV Sedation.
