Overview

Submental liposuction is an excellent treatment option for individuals with stubborn collections of fat under the chin and jawline that does not respond to dieting and exercising. Houston facial plastic surgeons, Dr. Kridel and Dr. Delaney use liposuction to remove excess fat from the neck and jawline to help patients achieve improved jawline definition and a thinner, sleeker appearance.

What Sets Us Apart

Dr. Kridel and Dr. Delaney are an award-winning, board-certified facial plastic surgeons specializing in aesthetic surgery strictly for the areas of the neck and up. Together, Dr. Kridel and Dr. Delaney have published over 40 scientific journal articles and book chapters on facial rejuvenation. Our patients and staff refer others, as well as their own family members to Dr. Kridel and Dr. Delaney for their recognized surgical skill and expertise in this area.

Surgical Technique

During submental liposuction, the surgeon makes tiny incisions under the chin and behind each earlobe and “vacuums” out excess fat through a suction catheter called a “cannula." The small incisions are closed with sutures, which are removed in the office 5 to 7 days later. The procedure takes about an hour, depending on the size of the area and the amount of excess fat needed to be removed.

I had chin liposuction with Dr. Kridel, and my results are phenomenal! I look natural but there is a huge difference. But not only am I pleased with the results, I also really enjoyed being a patient of Dr. Kridel and his staff. They were always professional, kind, and caring. I highly recommend Dr. Kridel and Associates. If you are thinking of having facial plastic surgery, he is definitely one of the top plastic surgeons in Houston.

During/After Surgery

Liposuction is performed under local anesthesia or “twilight” iv sedation at our AAAHC-accredited, in-office surgical suite. Immediately after surgery, patients can begin to see a more youthful jawline with jowls and double chins reduced. It takes about a full week for the bruising and swelling to dissipate and can take several months for the final results to appear. There will be faint scars where the cannula incision was made, but these are very small and will fade over time. After five days, you can return to work.

Expected Cost

Liposuction of the face will vary in cost depending on how many areas of the face (cheeks, neck, chin, etc.) are being addressed. For the liposuction part alone, the cost can range between $3,000-$4,500. This surgery is sometimes combined with a rhinoplasty or chin augmentation. The costs will increase if another procedure is performed at the same time.

About Us
Will Lipo Tighten Skin?

Liposuction is a surgery that removes fat, but it does not address loose skin. Good candidates for liposuction alone typically have good skin elasticity. For those with significant skin laxity, other treatment options may give you a better result. During your consultation with Dr. Kridel or Dr. Delaney, he can review all of the options for skin tightening and skin texture, if you would like.

How do I Know if I Need Lipo?

During your consultation with Dr. Kridel or Dr. Delaney, he will fully evaluate the face and neck area. He will also take photographs and complete digital computer imaging so that patients can discuss their aesthetic goals and review what can be achieved through submental liposuction or other facial rejuvenation procedures. Dr. Kridel and Dr. Delaney will only provide you with a surgical plan tailored specifically to you and your goals for the most successful facial rejuvenation outcome, which may or may not include liposuction.

What About Scarring?

Dr. Kridel and Dr. Delaney take great care to place the incisions in inconspicuous spots, such as under the chin and behind the earlobes, to keep scarring to a minimum and virtually undetectable over time.

Weight Loss First?

Liposuction creates a slimmer facial appearance and is ideal for those who are at a healthy weight but still have stubborn areas of fat resistant to diet and exercise.  Liposuction is not an alternative to a weight loss plan, nor is it a surgical treatment for obesity.  Patients that have lost a great deal of weight and have loose skin as a result may be better candidates for facelift surgery but not facial liposuction.

Combining Procedures?

Submental liposuction is commonly combined with facelift surgery to remove the fatty area directly under the chin or with chin augmentation surgery to improve jawline definition. However, it can also be done as a single outpatient procedure.
