What is the difference between Dysport and Botox?

Botox and Dysport are both neuromodulators and are quite similar. Both come from botulinum toxin, a neurotoxic protein that is safe when used in small amounts.

Botox and Dysport are most effective when used on dynamic lines, those that appear when you’re frowning or raising your eyebrows, for example.

The main differences between Dysport and Botox can be found in their formulas. Dysport has smaller molecules than Botox, so it tends to spread further when injected into the skin. This results in a more even distribution of the product throughout the treated areas.  Patients often comment that Dysport gives a softer effect than Botox. Dysport also tends to be faster acting, 1-2 days rather than 3 or 4 days with Botox.  Both tend to last about 4 months.

Shortly after Botox was launched, Dysport was considered its European counterpart, serving over 60 countries worldwide. In 2009, the FDA approved Dysport for use in the United States. Since then, it’s been proven to be an effective, non-invasive treatment for wrinkles and fine lines. Both Botox and Dysport had medical uses before approval for cosmetic use and still do.

Both are most effective when used on dynamic lines, for example, those that appear when you’re frowning or raising your eyebrows.

The patient cost for Dysport injections is similar to Botox.
