Many of you may have seen or heard the name “Morpheus 8” in the past year. Morpheus 8 is a new, innovative treatment that incorporates Microneedling with Radiofrequency energy. FPSA had been one of the early adopters of this leading-edge technology.

Morpheus 8 is a safe and effective minimally invasive device designed for skin and subdermal fat remodeling. The handpiece utilizes gold-plated needle tips that deliver a burst of radiofrequency energy once fully deployed. The treatment depth is adjustable and can be tailored to each person’s specific anatomy and needs.

Morpheus 8 treatments can be performed in the office with topical numbing cream, nerve blocks, or under iv sedation, depending on how aggressive you want to be with the radiofrequency energy. Of course, the more aggressive we are with the power, the better the results.

Together, the mechanical stimulus from the Microneedling and the thermal stimulus from the Radiofrequency pulses promote the production of new collagen in the dermis to improve skin tone, skin texture, and firmness over 3-6 months. One of the exciting features of Morpheus 8 is that it is safe on all skin types, including darker skin tones, with little risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) that we sometimes see with other resurfacing methods.

Depending on your goals for the Morpheus 8 treatment, we usually recommend 1 to 3 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart to start. We then typically recommend a yearly treatment for maintenance.

After the treatment, there is usually 2-5 days of mild redness over the treatment area, like a sunburn. Occasionally, the micro-channels created by the needle tips may be visible as small dots for a day or two.

Routine Morpheus 8 skin treatments have now been incorporated as an integral part of the FPSA skincare paradigm. We are also seeing more and more patients request Morpheus 8 treatments as an add-on procedure when under sedation for other procedures. A popular combination is FaceTite and Morpheus 8. Both treat the facial and neck skin with radiofrequency energy but do so at different levels and can be complementary when used together.
