Overview

Houston facial plastic surgeons, Dr. Kridel and Dr. Sturm are considered leading experts in facial fillers, including non-invasive Perlane treatments. At FPSA, our physicians design and inject Perlane treatments tailored to the individual aesthetic goals of men and women.  Perlane is a clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid, which is used to soften moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds by adding volume deep into the skin. Perlane can be used to treat facial wrinkles around the eyes, cheeks, chin and lips for a natural, youthful and refreshed appearance.

About Perlane

Perlane is composed of hyaluronic acid, which is a natural substance that already exists in the body. It is a crystal-clear gel that is chemically cross-linked to delay the breakdown of skin enzymes. Perlane is a member of the Restylane® family.

What Sets Us Apart

At FPSA, your Perlane treatments are performed by board-certified facial plastic surgeons, Dr. Angela Sturm or Dr. Russell Kridel, or a registered nurse under the direct supervision of one of the surgeons. This provides patients with the peace of mind that they are in the hands of a physician who focuses solely on the face and neck and the procedure is done in the safety and comfort of a medical office environment. In addition, Dr. Kridel and Dr. Sturm make sure patients are comfortable and experience very little discomfort during their treatment session, so patients can be given numbing cream or a dental block if they desire. At FPSA, Dr. Kridel and Dr. Sturm take facial injections quite seriously and believe it is important for patients to have highly skilled and trained hands that can tailor injections to your specific needs with greater finesse, rather than a one size fits all approach at many medical spas.

Administering Perlane

Perlane is administered by Dr. Kridel or Dr. Sturm during an in-office appointment that typically takes about 30 minutes. Perlane is injected into the skin with an ultra-fine needle. It plumps the skin to smooth away wrinkles and folds. The injection treatment, including the dosage and injection location, is tailored specifically to your facial structure and aesthetic goals. Dr. Kridel and Dr. Sturm will mark the specific areas on the face that are going to be treated with a washable marker. A local anesthetic may be used for additional comfort. There is no downtime, and patients are able to go home or return to work following their appointment.

What To Expect

Patients should notice a difference to their face almost immediately following a Perlane injection. Patients should expect results that include added volume to the face, which will smooth out wrinkles, to typically last six months to a year.

Expected Cost

Perlane treatment costs vary for each patient depending on the size of the treatment area and the aesthetic goal. Costs range between $675-$1,375 per treatment session.

Perlane FAQs

What's Treated?

Patients with moderate to severe wrinkles, worry lines, smile lines, crow’s feet, cheek depressions and smoker’s lines use Perlane fillers. Patients also use Perlane injections for lip enhancement, chin augmentation, redefining lip borders and softening acne scars.

Restylane or Perlane?

Made by the same manufacturer, Perlane and Restylane are similar products. However, Perlane contains a higher concentration of hyaluronic acid intended for larger folds and wrinkles. Restylane should be used for smaller wrinkles, or to maintain the results of Perlane treatments. Perlane can also be a little bit more expensive filler because of the higher amounts of hyaluronic acid.

Different from BOTOX®?

Botox is a wrinkle relaxer and Perlane is a wrinkle filler. Unlike Botox, Perlane does not numb facial muscles. Perlane only reduces the visibility of wrinkles and folds by adding volume and fullness under the skin. Perlane can be used in conjunction with Botox, but in different areas, to provide maximum results.

How Long Do Results Last?

Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in the body that depletes with age. The hyaluronic acid in Perlane injections is biodegradable, which means results are not permanent. On average, results last six months to a year. Some patients use other injectable fillers, such as Restylane, in between Perlane treatments to maintain soft, youthful results.
