Many Houston area men and women will make the decision to have a facelift (also known as rhytidectomy) to help reverse the visible signs of aging. The term “facelift” is actually a face and neck lift, because the surgery re-supports the cheek, jawline and neck. To achieve the most natural, long-lasting results, a facelift requires meticulous dissection performed in layers. Dr. Kridel and Dr. Sturm tailor every facelift to the individual with the special Multi-Vector Positioning Lift (MVP) approach. During the consultation, Dr. Kridel and Dr. Sturm will also utilize computer imaging so that you can visualize the surgical results you can expect.
What Sets Us Apart@headingTag>
Dr. Kridel and Dr. Sturm are facial plastic surgeons specializing in aesthetic surgery strictly for the areas of the neck and up. Dr. Kridel has pioneered surgical techniques specifically for facelift surgery that are now taught in medical schools across the country. He has published over 30 scientific journal articles and book chapters on facial rejuvenation, including several papers with Dr. Sturm. In addition to the MVP Lift, Dr. Kridel is also recognized for his “hidden incisions” technique that makes it virtually impossible to detect scars. Our patients and physicians refer others, as well as their own family members to Dr. Kridel and Dr. Sturm for their superior surgical skill and expertise in facelift surgery.
Surgical Technique: MVP Lift@headingTag>
During facelift surgery, sagging skin is repositioned, excess fat, tissue and skin are removed, and the underlying musculature is re-suspended with permanent sutures to make the lift last longer. Dr. Kridel’s and Dr. Sturm’s goal is to have an outcome that appears natural, not a tight “wind-tunnel” look. Therefore the skin is re-draped in an upward and slightly posterior direction to give a natural look to the face. Extra time is also taken to hide incisions around the ear and back into the hair, while preserving the hair in front and behind the ears.

"YES I would recommend Dr. Kridel for facial reconstructive and cosmetic surgery."- RateMDs / RateMDs / Nov 12, 2014
"I chose this physician based on two physician referrals. I am a 60 year old female that had a face lift and lower bleph. I appear 20 younger from having had the surgery. Not only is he competent, but friendly and answers all questions. This procedure would have cost me double in NYC where I live. His pricing is in line with other plastic surgeons that I consulted with in the Houston area. YES I would recommend Dr. Kridel for facial reconstructive and cosmetic surgery."- Anonymous / RateMDs / Mar 09, 2012
"Dr. Kridel did a face/neck (F/N) revision done by an acclaimed Houston MD, I will call Dr. “X”. When Dr. X did my F/N, he exchanged breast implants placed 30 yrs ago after a large weight loss. This 1-stop shopping approach to plastic surgery doesn’t work! Dr. X improved my F/N, but residual loose neck skin & a tired look remained; he also did not remove breast scar tissue with the implant exchange. My “new” breasts were dysmorphic & tender. Dr. John Lomonaco, who specializes in breast and bariatric procedures, removed the breast scar tissue, gave me a GREAT lower body lift & highly recommended Dr. Kridel for my residual F/N issues. Dr. X offered to fix my F/N at the cost of the OR, but I chose Dr. Kridel. The cost of another face/neck surgery with Dr. Kridel was worth it! My face is now more natural and less tired appearing. I also LOVE the lack of loose neck skin."- Anonymous / RateMDs / Sep 11, 2014
" Dr. Kridel did a face/neck (F/N) revision originally done by another acclaimed Houston MD, I will call Dr. “X”. When Dr. X did my F/N surgery, he exchanged breast implants that were placed 30 yrs earlier after a large weight loss. This 1-stop shopping approach to plastic surgery doesn’t work! Dr. X improved my F/N, but residual loose neck skin & a somewhat tired look remained; he also did not remove built up breast scar tissue with the implant exchange. My “new” breasts were dysmorphic & tender. So I went to Dr. John Lomonaco, who specializes in breast and bariatric procedures, & he removed the breast scar tissue, gave me an AWESOME lower body lift & highly recommended Dr. Kridel for my residual F/N issues. Dr. X offered to fix my F/N at the cost of the OR, but I chose Dr. Kridel. The cost of another face/neck surgery with Dr. Kridel was worth it! My face is now more natural and less tired appearing. I also LOVE the lack of loose neck skin! I find it interesting that Dr. Kridel established and oversees “The Face Foundation”, a charitable organization which helps financially–strapped victims of domestic violence undergo facial procedures, that otherwise would not be available to them. I think it is a telling testament to the level of his skillset, his integrity and his own emotional centeredness. Probably many of those battered and broken individuals are problematic and complex cases, some maybe permanently limited from ever achieving cosmetic perfection. I would imagine a few surgeons, even if paid, would chose to opt out rather than have their work displayed for possible judgment. Nonetheless, Dr. Kridel proceeds; perhaps with the goal of relieving pain, or rebuilding function, maybe restoring dignity and/or offering hope for a brighter tomorrow - nonetheless, he proceeds. Now that’s the physician I want doing my facial surgery!"- D.P. / Google+ / Oct 01, 2014
"My best friend and I wanted for years to have surgery done until one day we decided to go see Dr. Kridel. We had seen a few of his patients (one was my sister) and new that if we were going to do it, it had to be with him. We had surgery 5 months ago and we both love the results! I had face and eye surgery and can't tell you how happy I am. I just look refreshed without that "she had plastic surgery look". The recovery time was short and painless. He takes some much care of his patients along with his staff. Words cannot describe what a wonderful experience it was with Dr. Kridel. This is an important disicion that we take. Don't hesitate, Dr. Kridel is the best doctor there is!! "- M.V. / Google+ / Mar 22, 2014
What To Expect@headingTag>
Improvements from an MVP facelift surgery lasts 10 to 15 years. A facelift does not permanently prevent aging, but it does shift back the hands of time. The person who has a face lift never looks as old as they would have if they had not had the operation at all.
Facelift surgery using the MVP lift approach usually takes about 4 hours, and is typically performed under general anesthesia. It is common for patients to spend the first night at the hospital. At FPSA, we pride ourselves in the level of detail and post-operative care. You will come to our office the very next day after surgery for a follow-up, and the initial dressing will be replaced. You will have multiple follow-up visits during the first two weeks and throughout the year, including one to wash your hair a few days after surgery. Most patients are back to their normal routines within 10 days.
Every facelift surgery is unique and will be tailored according to the individual patient’s needs and aesthetic goals. The MVP Facelift is considered a more invasive surgery, and therefore, surgical fees can vary between $10,000-$16,000.
The improvement that results from an MVP Lift lasts around 10 to 15 years. No operation can permanently prevent aging, but a facelift definitely improves the appearance of the face by creating a younger look than can provide dramatic and long-lasting improvement.
What About Scarring?@headingTag>
Using painstaking thoroughness, Dr. Kridel and Dr. Sturm will make incisions in inconspicuous spots, which means facelift scars (inevitable with incisional surgery) will be in the hair or in natural facial lines, making them virtually undetectable even to your hairdresser.
It is very common for Dr. Kridel and Dr. Sturm to combine facelift surgery with other surgical or non-surgical procedures. This can be quite beneficial to patients to avoid having anesthesia multiple times. While a facelift does not get rid of fine wrinkles or creases around the mouth and eyes, the surgeon can use a CO2 laser in these areas or the full face to remove the fine lines and revitalize skin texture. Many patients also have submental liposuction done at the same time to remove the fatty pouch under the chin. Some patients also combine facelift with eyelid surgery, known as blepharoplasty, to remove the upper eyelid drooping and under eye bags.
Lunchtime or Quick Lift?@headingTag>
There has been a great deal of marketing for lifting treatments referred to by names such as the mini-lift, the weekend lift, and the lunchtime lift. Most of these ‘drive-thru” lifts rely on very minimal, if any, dissection. Therefore, the longevity of the results from such techniques is short lived – only about 2-3 years and can leave visible scars. Dr. Kridel and Dr. Sturm do not perform these types of procedures. Instead, he will recommend other non-surgical options such as, laser treatment or injectable fillers. For patients with significant signs of aging, including jowls and sagging skin, a true surgical facelift will be more appropriate and have lasting results.
Due to exposure to the elements, gravity’s force, and the passage of time, it’s inevitable that facial skin will show signs of aging. Modern medicine has allowed individuals to have facelift surgery with exceptional results, making it a very common surgery. In fact, many men and women have a facelift earlier, with the first evidence of loose facial skin, wrinkles and pouches in the cheeks, jawline, and neck.
